Financial Consulting Group (FCG) was established in 1996 by a group of seasoned professionals from the financial, legal, and accounting industry. The firm has combined these individuals and resources into a specialized consulting and administrative firm that provides retirement plan solutions, estate and retirement planning, and general business and financial consulting.
The principals were at the forefront of “bank owned life insurance” (BOLI) programs having served as the executive officers of Banking Consulting of America (BCA) one of the initial national BOLI consultants. Many of FCG’s retirement and professional practice benefit programs are unique and proprietary. Each business has unique problems and opportunities and FCG provides a customized solution for each of our clients.
The firm’s principals and associates have served as advisors to businesses and individuals in the areas of finance, employee benefits, investments, estate and tax planning, and accounting since the late 1970's. Their collective academic and professional designations include four CPAs, one J.D., one LL.M., one Masters in Tax Accounting, one Masters in Business Administration, three Certified Financial Planners (CFPs®), six Certified Employee Benefit Specialists (CEBSs), and a Certified Pension Consultant. FCG has also been a specialist and administrator of Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOP).
Financial Consulting Group is headquartered in Germantown, Tennessee with offices in Huntsville, Alabama. FCG has a strategic alliance with The Newport Group, a national consulting and administration firm, with over 450 professionals dedicated to the retirement plan, executive benefit plans, and BOLI/ COLI markets.
Executive Biographies:
Dennis R. Plyler
Dennis is a Partner and founding member of FCG. He graduated with honors from the University of Alabama in Birmingham with an undergraduate degree in accounting. He received a Masters in Tax Accounting from the University of Alabama. He worked with Arthur Young (now Ernst & Young) for nine years in the tax department (1980-1989). He served as the Arthur Young National Tax Resident (1983-1984), working in the employee compensation and retirement plan division. He was a compensation and benefit specialist for Arthur Young teaching at the firm’s national seminars. From 1989 to 1993, Dennis served as the Vice President of Human Resources and Vice President of Finance for Birmingham Steel Corporation, one of the nation’s largest steel producers. From 1993 to November 1996, he was Executive Vice President of BCA with responsibilities for client relations, regulatory and accounting compliance, and design of qualifies and non-qualified retirement plans for directors and key executives and professionals.
Lloyd V. Crawford
Lloyd is a Partner and founding member of FCG. He is an honors graduate of the University of Memphis where he earned a B.A. and a J.D. He completed his legal studies at the University of Florida earning an LL.M. (Masters in Taxation). Lloyd practiced law with the firm of Rushton, Stakely, Johnston & Garrett, P.A. in Montgomery, Alabama from 1984 through 1988 in the areas of qualified retirement plans, general estate and income tax, and bankruptcy. He headed the legal department at BCA for eight years and served as the President of First Southern Trust Company, an affiliate of BCA. He has 20 years experience in ESOPs, KSOPs, tax qualified plans, estate planning, and regulatory issues. He is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court, Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
A. Boyd Wade, III
Boyd is Director of Bank Relations of FCG. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in business administration. From 1986 to 2001, Boyd worked with Rhea and Ivy, CPAs, a regional accounting firm based in Memphis, in their audit department. From 2001 until 2008, he served as Chief Financial Officer for a financial consulting firm that centered on financial strategies for the community banking industry where he was responsible for developing BOLI strategies and administration.
Carolyn Barnett
Carolyn is Client Service Director of FCG. She graduated with honors from Memphis State University with an undergraduate degree in accounting. She worked with First Mercantile Trust Company for six years in the Administration Department. From 1995 to 1997, she was a Senior Account Executive and Director of Operations with First Southern Trust Company. From 1997 to October 1999, she was a Vice President and Trust Officer with National Bank of Commerce in the Employee Benefits Department of the Trust Division. She has extensive experience involving the administration of ESOPs, KSOPs, tax-qualified and non-qualified plans. In addition to being a CPA, she is a Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA) and a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS).
Teresa Carroll
Teresa is Client Service Manager of FCG. She graduated with honors from Memphis State University with an undergraduate degree in Business Administration. Teresa handles administration for retirement plans and BOLI. She worked for Burch, Porter & Johnson as a legal assistant from 1989 until 1992. In 1993, she joined the legal department of BCA responsible for the reviewing and drafting of employee benefit plan documents and the preparation of compliance and administrative manuals for bank clients. In addition, she is a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS).
